David Goldman custodyShortly after waving goodbye to his wife and son at a New Jersey airport in 2004, David Goldman was thrust into the worldwide media spotlight as he waged a 5-year long, and ultimately successful, international custody battle to be reunited with his son, Sean.

Goldman's then-wife was taking their son to Brazil for a brief vacation, but she refused to return from Brazil starting a complex custody and abduction battle that took five years until David was reunited with Sean. The case drew the attention of the international media, as well as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Goldman has written about the experience in his book called "A Father’s Love," which is available at bookstores and online retailers nationwide.

In a discussion with DadsDivorce.com editor Matt Allen, Goldman shared the emotional toll of the abduction, how he's had to overcome parental alienation, and why dads everywhere should read "A Father's Love."

financial advice divorceFinancial adviser Dan Danford answers a personal finance question from a Money Made Easy viewer:

"My son wants to purchase a car and have me co-sign for it. I have an average credit score so I don't think I would be rejected as a co-signer, but will the fact that I am co-signing for my son affect my credit score in any way?"

Danford, MBA, CRSP, of Family Investment Center, explains while co-signing may not affect your credit score, it may affect your ability to get loans in the future.

Remember that loaning money or co-signing is a business transaction. Treat it as such.

PTSD domestic violenceMen comprise 25-50% of all intimate partner violence victims in a given year yet there is little research focusing specifically on male victims of domestic violence, according to Denise Hines, a research assistant professor at Clark University.

Her recent study was the first to link Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to men who seek help after being abused by their female partner.

PTSD is a psychiatric condition that can follow the experience of a traumatic incident and the experience of intimate partner violence is generally considered to be a traumatic event, Hines said.

Her research study titled "Symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Men Who Sustain Intimate Partner Violence" was published in the April issue of Psychology of Men & Masculinity.

In the video below, Hines talked with DadsDivorce.com editor Matt Allen about PTSD, "intimate terrorism" and what is preventing this issue from being as widely recognized as domestic violence against women.

You can also listen to the full audio version of the podcast on PTSD and violence against men.
