Ask A Lawyer Question:

I am running into some problems with my ex-wife in relation day care expenses. I am court-ordered to pay 60% of the expenses. We have a 50-50 joint custody agreement and are supposed to notify one another in a timely manner about everything concerning our daughter.

My ex sent me an email saying I owe the day care money and that it was due 10-days prior to her sending me the email. The day care will not discuss the bill with me at all; the account is only in my ex's name and they will only deal with her.
I had paid up through the end of the month and do not know why she thinks I owe even more money. I have nothing to show for a bill, just my ex's email.

Since I am court-ordered to pay a portion of the bill. Is the day care required to provide me with a copy of the bill?

Should I go to court and ask my ex to provide this...if so, then what do I take her to court in regard to (what is the charge) and should I include the day care provider as well for refusing to show me a bill I am legally responsible for?

Question:divorce lawyer Carrie Westbrook

Regarding a child support modification, I accepted a new job out of state that pays more money. My children will continue to live in their state.

Can I modify my child support order to offset the travel expenses I will incur in order to continue seeing my kids during our scheduled parenting time?

child supportChild support is typically paid until the child reaches the age of majority, which is usually 18 or 21 years old depending on the state. (Learn your state's child support laws.)

However, the courts can in their discretion order support to be paid longer than that, but only under limited circumstances.

The first circumstance, and a pretty common one, is when the minor child reaches age 18 prior to graduation from high school.

mens divorce lawyer William BackerQuestion:

My question is about child support laws. I believe my ex-wife has moved in with her boyfriend and is no longer having to pay rent.

Would I be successful in filing a modification to lower my child support payments because she is getting free housing?

Divorce attorney Jason BowmanQuestion:

My divorce decree states that I am responsible for 76% of extraordinary medical expenses. My ex-wife is abusing this though by making unnecessary and expensive medical care decisions for our daughter.

She is getting procedures done without my permission and is now threatening to put additional medical and dental expenses in my name without my permission. Am I required to pay for these expensive procedures that I'm not being consulted on?
