Question: My 14-year-old son wants to move from Missouri to Arizona where I now live. His mother, my ex, agrees that it would be best since the two of them do not get along.

However, I also have a 7-year-old son with my ex who wants to stay with his mom.

What is the court’s general feeling about splitting the two kids up? If I am only to take the one son for now how will that affect my child support? My ex seems to believe I will still have to pay her for both of my children even if one of them is living with me.

Question:

My ex-girlfriend and I have split up, and she is refusing to let me see my 2-month-old daughter. She just wants to fight about the past and can’t let go. Now she is using our daughter as leverage over me. I don't know where to go from here. Do you have any advice on how I can get rights to visit my daughter?

Question:

My wife and I are about to file for divorce... We have discussed custody and plan on 50/50 joint custody. We have 2 children together, she had 2 children from a prior relationship and never got a dime of child support from him (I don't know if that matters or not). We were together for 10 years... I make about $38k a year, she makes $40k and has the family's insurance plan through her job......Other than 1/2 of childcare and medical insurance will I be responsible for any other support if we have joint custody?

Answer:

Every state calculates support differently. I am not licensed in Missouri so I recommend you also seek advice from an attorney licensed in MO. If Missouri uses an income share model for support, it is unlikely you will pay much if any support. Wife may get a credit for paying health insurance and daycare may be factored in. In other words your support may equal 1/2 of these things. I suggest using an online child support calculator on dadsdivorce.com to get a better idea of potential child support.

Question:

If I have payed my back child support but not money I owe the state, why are they still deneying my passport?

Answer:

I would guess because you need to pay the state back before being elegible to receive your passport. Is the money owed to the state for your child? I am not licensed in MO so you should also consult an attorney in your state.

Question:

Child support is under $2500 but what I owe is not, can I get my passport?

Answer:

I recommend contacting the State Department to determine if you are eligible to receive your passport.
