Dads seeking divorce advice frequently ask divorce lawyers about how to keep their ex-wives or soon-to-be-exes from saying negative things to the children about their father.

Many divorced parents will talk about the divorce case with their children, use the kids as messengers, or, in worse cases, fill their children's heads with lies about the other spouse in an attempt to turn the children against the targeted parent.

While there are legal steps you can take to prevent your children from being exposed to the details of your case, practically speaking, these options may not produce the best results.

Question:

I am looking for divorce tips for men on how to enforce court orders.

I am supposed to have court-ordered counseling with my children in an effort to rebuild my relationship with them due to years of my ex-wife's parental alienation. 

However, since my ex has primary child custody and the counseling falls during her parenting time, she is refusing to take the children.

What can I do to get this court order enforced so I can have counseling with my children?

My journey with support groups started shortly after I married, when I joined one for stepmoms.

The reassurance I felt from having other faces in the room, all nodding in agreement while I spoke about our blended family issues, was immeasurable. 

My husband David's divorce and child custody case was highly contentious and went to trial.

As I watched my husband's case unfold in the family law court system, my eyes were opened to the many opportunities for reform including the "winner take all" mentality that subverts the children's needs to that of the parents. 

Craig Schelske has been fighting to have increased parenting time with his children with his ex-wife, country music star and "Dancing With The Stars" contestant Sara Evans.

This contentious divorce and child custody battle has all taken place in the public eye and even recently resulted in Evans' attorney settling a slander lawsuit Schelske had filed against him and issuing a letter of apology to Schelske for his actions in this case.

Unfortunately, Schelske has become what every dad going through divorce fears, an "every other weekend" visitation dad marginalized by the family court system.

He talked with DadsDivorce.com editor Matt Allen about his divorce being played out in the media, parental alienation, and the injustices he encountered as a father fighting for custody in a biased family law system.
