Ask A Lawyer: Is There a Time Period to Protest New Deeds?

Posted by pmcmahon in Spencer Williams , property issues , MO , fraud , Cordell Cordell, PC , Ask A Lawyer

Question:

My father owned property prior to his second marriage which began 10 years ago. Three months ago, his 2nd wife told him that if he wanted to save their marriage, he would put her name on the deed. He's a sucker. He also signed for a new car for her.

She filed for divorce approximately 2 months after the deed and 1 week after getting the car.  Is there any sort of time period in which the new deed can be protested?

Ask A Lawyer: Do I Get 1/2 On Proceeds From The Sale Of The House?

Posted by pmcmahon in settlement , Richard Coffee , property issues , Property , Cordell Cordell, PC , Ask A Lawyer

Question:

I realized recently that I received no money from the sell of the house that my ex wife and I lived in while married. My name was not on the loan for the home. The loan was in my ex wife's name and her mother was the co signer.

Should I have still received 50% of the money received from the sell of the house?

Ask A Lawyer: Her Property Tax Responsibility

Posted by Rick Ortiz in taxes , Spencer Williams , property issues , Cordell Cordell, PC , Ask A Lawyer

Question:

I live in Pittsburgh, Pa. My wife and I have been separated since 5/31/08. She moved out of the home and now renting a townhouse. My question is: Is she still responsible for paying any portion of the taxes on our home such as "Property tax?" She is still a co-owner of this residence. This is a concern to me when division of property and Federal Tax Return is to be divided.
