Question:
I am paying child support for my daughter, but I never got married to her mom. I also pay half of the day care bills because I feel it is only fair. However, I never stopped to consider if I actually HAD to pay child support. Do I? And if so, is it a certain percentage? My daughter is almost 2, and both her mother and I work full time. However, I don't actually use the day care, since I have her on the weekends and take care of her the whole time. Her mother is the only one who uses the day care, and it is during the week, when she takes care of our daughter. Thanks for the help!

Allow me to preface my response with the disclaimer that I am not licensed in the State of Nevada. I do not know if Nevada uses percentages. Right now unless you have a Court or Administrative Order obligating you, then you do not have to pay child support. I suggest that you continue to do so and be sure to keep track of everything you pay. Do not pay in cash. Track everything. In a paternity case, she can ask for expenses in some jurisdictions back 5 years. So she could file a couple years from now and that information would be very helpful.
