Question:
My ex wife filed for a divorce in a county neither of us lived in at the time. Without being properly served, I was just notified that her attorney got a judgment for a property settlement of $7,500. How can they do this without me knowing, and how can they do this when she already got most of our assets? Also, is filing for a divorce in a county that neither of us were residents of considered legal? This is a whirlwind that has left me very confused.
Question:
My wife and I have been married for 17 years, but we have now been separated, though not legally, for three years. During this time, I’ve paid all bills, tuition and support, and been able to see my kids every weekend since. My wife recently inherited a home from a deceased grandfather and now lives there. Do I have any legal rights in regards to this property since we are still legally married? Can I use the inherited house as leverage to retain my retirement?

I am going through a divorce and we just sold our old house. I have been thinking about buying a new house. Should I wait to buy a new house until my divorce is finalized or is it OK to buy now since we’re already in the divorce process? I don’t want my new house to become marital property though.

My wife’s mother died last year and left her with a substantial inheritance. We also own a home together where I am on the deed, but not on the mortgage. Am I entitled to any property or a portion of my wife’s inheritance if we get a divorce?
