Question:
I have an 18 year old son living with his Mom in Indiana. He graduated high school in May and will be going to College in the Fall. I just learned that he has joined the Indiana National Guard. Does this qualify as military service? Is this grounds for emancipation? He starts his basic training in a few weeks.
Answer:
Allow me to preface my answer to your question with the disclaimer that I am not licensed to practice law in the state of Indiana. That should be grounds for emancipation unless there are extenuating circumstances.

If the child is 18 his/her parents have no legal or right to push him/her to do anything they are an adult and considered as such. Parents cannot do anything.

I'm seventeen years old and I'm currently living with my mother in Franklin, Indiana. My father has no custody of me and is currently facing a case against the state for domestic violence that my mother has filed. I am in a position where I can not continue to live with my mother and I don't have any where else to turn. I'm not sure what I can do legally to help me get out of the hamrful environment I am in. I would appreciate any advice that I or my father can get to help me in this situation.
