Can my wife show a videotape of my affair to my child?

Question: I live in Michigan. I cheated on my wife. She has the video (don't ask). She wants to be able to show my daughter the tape sometime in the future. My daughter is 3 years old now and I don't think my daughter ever needs to know the details. My wife is doing this just to get back at me. Would a judge ok this?

Answer: I could not imagine this being approved by a judge. In fact, most judges would order that the tape never be shown to the minor child. I do not believe the court would have the authority to order that it never be shown to an emancipated (adult) child. If you ex-wife still believes that is necessary in 15 to 19 years she is in need of extensive therapy. If she is indicating that she wants to show the tape to the child when she is still a tender age, I would use that as a basis to ask for sole physical custody.
