Texas divorce lawyerQuestion:

Do child support calculators consider the reason for a person's unemployment when setting the final amount?

My soon-to-be-ex-wife just got herself fired for gross misconduct. Since she now has zero income it is likely my child support payments will be higher.

Will the child support calculation take into account that it was her actions that caused her to lose her job?

Mens divorce lawyerQuestion:

Do child support laws recognize informal agreements? My ex-wife and I agreed to a child support amount that was different then the court-ordered amount, and I pay support directly to her.

Now she is disputing the child support amount we agreed to and recently had my wages garnished for the full amount.

Can she do this?

Mens divorce lawyerQuestion:

In my divorce agreement, I am supposed to pay $700 per month in child support and have that amount garnished from my income.

However, I have three sources of income and each source is withholding $700 so I'm actually paying $2,100!

How can I get each source of income to withhold the proper amount of child support?

Many people are adamantly opposing to the idea of having their child support payments being deducted from their paychecks since the paying party often sees it as an invasion of privacy.

I have had clients tell me that they will fight any order that requires their paychecks to withhold their child support because they simply do not want their employers to know their personal business.

It is often the perception that a paying parent should not be subject to any wage garnishment so long as they are current on their support payment.

But that isn't always the case.

Attorney Jason HopperQuestion:

I am about to get a new job making about 20% more gross income. Although there is nothing in my agreement or divorce settlement about disclosing this, is a change in income something I must share with my ex wife, who will probably ask for more child support and alimony if she finds out?
