divorce recoveryBy Lisa S. Brown

Board Certified Counselor

As a counselor, I offer divorce help for men and frequently tell struggling divorced dads that there is one thing in life that you can always count on: change.

Change can be a good thing when things are less than desirable in our lives or we can perceive it as a bad thing if we are at a place to where we do not want things to change.

Mens divorce lawyerQuestion:

Our divorce judgment stats that we are to split the co-pays and miscellaneous medical bills for our children.

My ex-wife has been taking my son to a psychologist against my objections and now I am being billed for thousands of dollars.

Psychologist fees are not specifically addressed in our divorce decree. Does this fall under "other" medical expenses?

Question:

My wife suffers from a personality disorder, which has been informally diagnosed by our family therapist. As a result of her mental illness, she is emotionally and physically abusive to my children and I.

Can a court order be put into place to have a psychological exam done on my wife? And if she was found to be mentally unfit, how could that change the outcome of the custody battle?

divorce attorney Jill DuffyQuestion:

I am convinced my child has a mental disorder. His mother, who has primary custody, will not address the situation or take him to a psychiatrist for diagnosis.

What are my rights as the child's father to get him to a doctor and get a diagnosis?
