Question:

Do child support laws outline what funds are to be used to pay child support?

My brother is extremely wealthy and has been giving me several thousand dollars a month because I am unemployed.

My soon-to-be-ex-wife is threatening to make me brother pay for my child support obligations since I am broke without him giving me money. Can she do that?

The frequency of disagreements with your wife over finances is one of the key predictors of divorce whether you are rich or poor, according to research.

In "The State of Our Unions" report, Jeffrey Dew of Utah State University shared his research findings that couples who reported disagreeing about finances once a week were more than 30 percent more likely to divorce than couples who reported disagreeing about finances a few times per month.

Debt is a primary cause for a broken marriage no matter which party is responsible for it, and it doesn’t matter if couples are rich, middle class or poor. Fueling the erosion of a marriage is consumer debt (e.g. credit card debt), according to Dew.

In this edition of Money Made Easy, financial adviser Dan Danford answers a financial question from a viewer who is looking for professional help in investing.

"At what point should you get a financial planner? I have some savings and a 401k, but do most financial planners only deal with people who have a substantial amount of money?"

Question:

Why am I being forced to pay alimony to my wife when we are still married and our divorce is not finalized?
