men's rightsBy Julie Garrison

Note: A previous divorce article discussed How Feminism Has Affected the Divorce and Child Custody Process.

It wasn't only the women's movement that has changed the way that child custody is granted. The men's rights movement took off after fathers got tired of being relegated to the role of part-time dad and cash cow.

They joined forces and brought about positive change for men's rights. No longer did the ex-wife have all the power. Men empowered themselves and began insisting on equity in divorce and child custody matters.

Though this was a step in the right direction, the feminists fought back, which brings us to where we are today – polarized. The feminists' attempt to masculinize women and feminize men has brought about the disaster that is modern society.

dads rights discrimination

Opponents of Dads Rights

It's remarkable to hear dads rights opponents dismiss the movement as a propaganda machine simply manipulating the facts in an effort to disenfranchise mothers.

The oft-stated mantra on DadsDivorce.com is the fathers rights movement is not an anti-mom movement or anti-woman movement. It's an anti-unfairness movement. Dads simply want family courts to treat them with the same respect and rights given to mothers.

How biased is the family law system against men's rights?

Let’s take a look at the numbers - the indisputable facts proving how much dads rights are discriminated against.

huffington post civil rights"Quite frankly, men's rights has become a civil rights issue. When you think of the progress we've made in civil rights, men's rights as it pertains to the family have been neglected."

That quote comes from DadsDivorce.com founder Joseph Cordell's latest Huffington Post column, "Divorce Civil Rights."

Cordell argues that profiling different groups based on skin color, age, disabilities, etc., is not permissible in any realm of society. Yet it happens every day to men and fathers when they walk into a family courtroom.

Count Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich among those advocating for rights for fathers and mens rights.

Gingrich criticized the combative family law system for its "extreme anti-male bias" against mens rights and its lack of divorce rights for men during a recent stop on his campaign trail in New Hampshire, according to the Fathers and Families website
