wife credit card debtQuestion:

My wife racked up excessive credit card debt before we married and is now trying to make me pay off those cards that are in her name only as part of our divorce settlement.

My name is not on those credit cards, and I have no direct line of credit.

Will a judge make me pay for credit card debt that is in my wife's name only and the majority of which was accumulated before we married?

St. Louis divorce lawyerQuestion:

My divorce property division was one-sided to my ex-wife and I want to know how to appeal.

I was ordered to pay half of her credit card debt, which was accumulated before we were married. She lied to the judge and said they were marital debts.

Even though the final order states that neither party was credible on the issue of the credit card debt I was ordered to contribute to her monthly payments.

I have objected and appealed, but it was denied. How is this legal?

finances divorceA divorce can be an emotionally trying event for anyone and it can create havoc on finances.

If a divorce has left you with less finances than before, re-evaluating and creating a new budget can help you gain financial security and prevent ruining your credit and mounting debt.

The first step is separating your emotions from your finances. It is easier said than done, but carrying any unresolved bitterness or anger into sound money decisions will not help your financial situation. There is life after divorce and for many people it can lead to a better life.
