baltimore divorce lawyerQuestion:

I was paying child support for a child I never met up until the time he was legally adopted by the child's mother's new husband.

At that point, I stopped paying child support believing my obligation ended once the child was adopted.

However, I received a letter saying I owe back child support during the time that my child was adopted.

Doesn't child support terminate once your child is adopted?

advice on divorceQuestion:

I owe back child support so when I file my taxes, any refund is intercepted for paying off those arrears.

I have remarried and we now have children of our own. If we file taxes together, my ex-wife still gets all of our refund.

How can I file taxes so that my wife's deserved portion of our tax refund also does not go to support my ex-wife?

St. Louis divorce lawyerQuestion:

I owe a substantial amount in child support arrears and am worried I will be thrown in jail.

The state is preparing to take away my driver’s license and my professional licenses, which will leave me unable to drive or work and result in jail time. This only makes the problem worse!

What can I do to prevent the state from taking these actions and forcing me into falling even further behind on child support?

St. Louis divorce lawyerQuestion:

What are the legal collection methods for unpaid child support?

I owe back child support and am paying through a wage garnishment.

Can the child support enforcement agency also freeze or garnish my bank account to take those assets as well?

divorce lawyer Daniel ExnerQuestion:

I owe back child support payments due to an arrearage building up when my children were younger and I was unable to pay.

Recently, the child support agency has notified me of my outstanding balance for past child support obligations, even though my children are in their 40s now.

Since I am now retired, can the state intercept and garnish my social security payments for purposes of paying off my child support arrears?
