Divorce Attorney Angela FoyQuestion:

I have been divorced for five years and have had no contact with my kids since then because of parental alienation. Prior to the divorce I had a great relationship with them. They are both now over 21 so I don't know if there is much I can do.

I was wondering though if I could sue my ex-wife for causing this damage to our relationship using the alienation of affection laws that I have heard about. Is this feasible?

Attorney Jason HopperQuestion:

I have been estranged from my children for over 10 years. Both children continue to repudiate me and are the victims of parental alienation. My ex-wife is seeking more support to help with their college expenses.

I have done exhaustive research on case law and from what I have read, my support and financial obligation to the children should stop immediately because they have repudiated me. Do I have a case?

Attorney Jason HopperQuestion:

My ex-wife is the guardian of my children. She has had my child coached on parental alienation and now has my child claiming I sexually abused her, which is absolutely false.

Since the allegations, all visitation and contact has stopped while I continue to pay child support. What is my legal recourse due to my parenting time being cut off because of  unsubstantiated allegations of sexual abuse?

Parental alienation is becoming a hot topic and is getting more recognition in courts. It generally occurs during divorce or separation. That is why the topic is addressed in providing help with divorce.

Fathers are often put in a situation where parental alienation affects their relationship with their children, and I frequently am asked if parental alienation is recognized by the courts?
