St. Louis divorce lawyerQuestion:

What state has jurisdiction of a child custody case if I want to prevent my child from being relocated out of state?

My child and my ex-wife still live in the state we were divorced in, though I have since moved across the border to another state. My ex-wife recently informed me that she is moving with our child across the country.

I need to know which state is considered the child's "home state" so that I can file a motion to prevent the move that could possibly result in a child custody modification.

divorce jurisdictionQuestion:

Our divorce has not been finalized but we have had child support orders entered in the state my wife and children live (California).

Now that I live in another state (Washington), can I file for divorce in this state as long as I've met the residency requirements or does California have jurisdiction because it issued the child support order?

mens divorce lawyer Janet Yu JohnstonQuestion:

My ex-wife has sole custody of our kids, but I would like to be able to see them.

She has moved around several states and I'm not even sure how to locate her or what state would govern our court orders.

What state should I proceed with child custody litigation?

divorce attorney Jill DuffyQuestion:

My wife currently lives in another state with my daughter, and I would like a divorce.

Which state has jurisdiction to decide child custody? The state I have lived in (Michigan) or the state my wife and daughter currently reside?

Divorce attorney Jason BowmanQuestion:

I am the wife of a gentleman that has sole custody of his old daughter. My husband has never received child support from his ex-wife though the decree states he should have been receiving support each month since the divorce.

The divorce was granted and child support ordered in Oklahoma, but we now live in Texas with the child. We filed in Texas for jurisdiction to be changed to our home state, but the judge stayed his ruling.

What can we do to have jurisdiction changed and get her to pay child support?
