dividing property divorceQuestion:

My wife and I are separated, but we have not filed for divorce yet.

I recently purchased a vehicle during our separation period and want to know about property division laws.

Since we are still legally married, does my wife have any rights to my vehicle even though it is exclusively in my name and it was purchased during a separation?

dividing property divorceQuestion:

I am going through a divorce and want to know the repercussions of starting a small business before my divorce is finalized.

Because of divorce waiting periods, my divorce won't be final for almost a year and I would like to start my business as soon as possible.

How are assets and/or debts accumulated during the separation period but before the divorce is finalized handled? Can my estranged wife claim half of my business if it is launched before we are officially divorced?

St. Louis divorce lawyerQuestion:

My wife and I in a separation period, though still legally married. My wife and her mother (my mother-in-law) are trying to change my son’s school district, presumably closer to my wife so she would have a better chance at getting custody.

My wife is also planning on giving her mother power of attorney so that she will have the right to review and determine our child's education.

Can she give her mother power of attorney without my consent and then move my son to another school district?

divorce jurisdictionBy Sara Pitcher

Noblesville, Indiana Divorce Lawyer

If divorcing parties physically separate and move to different counties, or even different states before legally separating, this can raise questions as to where to where the jurisdiction is in order to file for the dissolution of the marriage or the legal separation.

In order to determine which is the proper court in which to bring your action for dissolution or legal separation, you must look at which court would have jurisdiction over the action and over the parties involved.
