Is it possible to ask for a settlement amount less than what is owed on past due monies to finalize a case after the children are over 21 on their own and self sufficient?

Allow me to preface my answer to your question with the disclaimer that I am not licensed to practice law in the state of Michigan. Generally yes it is. You guys can settle upon a lower amount so long as it is agreeable to both parties. If your ex is not agreeable, then generally the court will not decrease what you owe.

Maintaining your financial security will be one of your most important considerations when faced with divorce. Your main concern should be negotiating the best possible settlement agreement.Guy Ritchie soon will see a payday of between $76 million and $92 million, Madonna’s spokeswoman says. The singer and her husband of nearly eight years are still ironing out the details of their divorce settlement. While other celebrities have had to shell out much more during their divorces, Madonna’s payout to Ritchie is definitely among the big ones. The settlement includes the couple’s country home in western England and their pub in London. To read more about the couple’s split and Ritchie’s huge payday click here.
