Allow me to preface my answer to your question with the disclaimer that I am not licensed to practice law in the state of Georgia. Generally the Court is loking for what is in your child's best interest. His best interests will include his wishes, which parent will facilitate visitation with other parent, which parent has a sufficient lifestyle and home for him, which parent is better suited to care for him and then any issues of fitness, ie mental illness, drug use, abuse, etc.
