Question:

When a decree discusses only “medical” and “unreimbursed medical” does that automatically include dental/vision? Or would dental/vision be considered separate issues?

Answer:

I must preface my answer that I do not practice in Iowa.  Each state has different laws governing dissolution of marriage.  It is important that you contact a domestic litigation attorney licensed in Iowa prior to taking any action.
 
If the divorce decree does not specifically list dental and vision then it most likely would not include dental and vision.  In most states dental and vision are separate medical and considered a fringe benefit.  However, you should consult the child support guidelines of Iowa for a definitive answer on what falls under the umbrella of medical coverage.  The way the vision and dental are paid may also give some guidance on whether or not each is covered under the medical.  In most states dental and vision are paid separately from the medical plan.
